Healthy seniors look younger than their age. If you’re a healthy senior, people say you look younger. Maybe you tell them your secret, or not. I hear some of my healthy friends simply say they’ve got good genes.
But nine times out of ten, that’s just being polite. The truth is healthy seniors put in time and energy on exercise and nutrition. They aren’t sedentary. They eat well and avoid alcohol, sugar, and a lot of starchy high carb and processed food. (Except for occasional pizza and pasta, of course!) They get enough sleep, and take time for play.
Healthy seniors pay attention to the four pillars of anti-aging:
- Vigorous exercise that includes high intensity interval training, muscle strengthening and stretching for flexibility
- Good nutrition: low-carbohydrate, moderate protein, and healthy fats
- Sleep: adequate hours of quality sleep
- De-stressing and social contacts (play)
We wrote about these four topics in our recently released book on Amazon, SENIOR WAR ON AGING. If you haven’t had a chance to get it yet, hop on over and buy it. Better yet, read it. It’s full of tips about how to shift your attention to these four pillars of health. Then let us know what your experience with aging has been. You can leave a review on Amazon. This is important because Amazon will help us get the word out if we can get enough reviews from readers.
And as this is September 1, a few days away from my 73rd birthday, I’m initiating a sugar-free nutritional plan. I’ve tried to do this several times. I’m hoping a public declaration will help keep me on track. I have used this technique to quit smoking and quit drinking alcohol, habits which are well over 30 years past. I’m not a big sugar junkie, just a little one, but I hate the way it makes me feel and I want better health. So, here we go.
I’m curious. Most of my friends who’ve kicked the habit say that after two weeks, the cravings go away. What’s been your experience? Leave a comment and share what you know about going off sugar and sweets. How do you keep healthy?
