A couple of weeks ago, Rob and I were invited to speak at a conference sponsored by People Unlimited in Scottsdale, AZ. We focused on key topics from our book War on Aging, the six pillars of aging well.
The conference theme was “Aliveness Loves Company,” and featured founders Jim Strole and Bernadeane. What was surprising and encouraging to us is that the 300 or so audience members weren’t mostly seniors. While there were a few in their 70s and 80s (and an amazing woman over 90), average age was probably 40-50s. There were also several 30-ish youngsters.
They all had a desire to live healthily now in order to ensure healthy aging in the future. In fact, many espoused a belief that if they live their best lives today, they would attain immortality. Interesting concept for sure, and open for discussion at another time.
Here’s a link to the YouTube video of our presentation on the Six Pillars of Aging.
Start Aging Well Now
These “youngsters” are on a path to live their best lives today. Most likely, they have no idea of how smart that is. They will have an easier time both physically and mentally by the time their bodies start to age. And, who knows? Science and medical technologies might present cures and fixes for degenerative old-age diseases before they get to 65.
Perhaps, like Ray Kurzweil believes, they will “Live long enough to live forever!”
Here are the Six Pillars of Aging Well, for easy viewing:
- Exercise: expand over the minimal amounts deemed official by government health sites. Exercise up-regulates mitochondria, the power houses inside your cells, giving you more energy and fighting inflammation and disease.
- Diet: low to moderate protein, eat more plant-based foods, less animal food (meat and diary), fewer carbs and grains
- Sleep: 7 – 8 ½ hours
- Stress: manage it
- Social life: be with friends
- Purpose and goals: find meaningful ways to express what really matters to you
